Answers to the most common questions about Kommunfångst. If you can't find what you need, drop us an email — we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
How do I log a visit?
Open the map, tap the municipality you're in, and tap "Mark as visited". If you're inside the municipality with a good GPS fix, tap "Verify visit" instead — the visit is then saved as GPS-verified, and only verified municipality visits count toward the leaderboard.
The "nearest unvisited" button helps you find municipalities close to you.
How do I log a peak?
Open a peak from the map or the peaks list and tap "Mark as visited". If you're standing on the summit with a good GPS fix, tap "Verify visit" instead — the visit is then saved as GPS-verified, and only verified peak visits count toward the leaderboard.
Peak elevations and positions in the app are informational only. Always check official sources and consider weather, conditions and your own skills before heading out.
How do photos work in the app?
Photos are an iOS feature. Turn on "Photos" in Settings and grant photo library access. The app reads location metadata (geotags) from your photos and places them on the map and in the photo journal — grouped by which municipality they were taken in.
Nothing leaves your device. Photos without geotags, and photos from municipalities you haven't visited, don't show up in the journal.
How do I get on the leaderboard, and what's shown there?
The leaderboard is opt-in. Go to "Public profile" in Settings, choose a display name (and optionally a home municipality and avatar) and tap "Join".
Ranking is based on your number of GPS-verified municipalities, number of unique peaks and total elevation gained. When someone opens your profile they see your display name, optional home municipality, optional avatar, your totals, all your GPS-verified municipalities grouped by county, and the list of verified peaks with their elevations. Your email address and visit timestamps are never shared.
You can edit your profile or leave the leaderboard at any time from the same screen.
Does my progress sync across devices?
Yes. When you're signed in, your visits are safely stored in the cloud, so you see the same progress on your phone and tablet. Sign in with the same account on each device.
Do I have to give the app access to my location?
No — location access is optional. You can still log visits manually by tapping the map.
If you grant access, the app can:
- find the municipality you're currently in,
- GPS-verify municipality and peak visits when you're at the right spot,
- show "nearest unvisited" municipalities and peaks nearby.
The app only uses your location while it's open — never in the background — and your location never leaves your device. You can change or revoke consent at any time from your phone's system settings.
How do I turn off personalized ads?
Go to Settings in the app and tap "Ad preferences". You can change your consent at any time. You'll still see ads, but they won't be tailored to your interests.
How do I export or delete my data?
Both are in Settings. "Export data" gives you a file with all your visits. "Delete account" removes your account and all associated data immediately and permanently.
I found a bug or have an idea — how do I let you know?
The fastest way is to open Settings in the app and tap "Report an error" — that sends us the technical details we need to track things down.
